QUALIFICATIONS:
- A master’s degree or higher, with a major in educational administration.
- A valid state certificate to practice as a school principal.
- Experience in public school administration and/or supervision.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: The principal will provide instructional leadership for the building. The principal will oversee the daily operations of the building and provide support to staff in the areas of curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional development. The principal will make a positive impact on student learning by increasing student achievement.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Establishes and maintains an effective learning climate in the school that focuses on the needs of each child.
2. Provide instructional leadership in the curriculum, instruction and assessment.
3. Programs classes within established state guidelines to meet student needs.
4. Supervises the guidance program to enhance individual student education and development.
5. Develops and maintains student handbooks that outline procedures for proper student conduct and the maintaining of student discipline.
6. Observes, supervises, and evaluates teachers in the teaching process.
7. Plans, organizes, and directs implementation of all school activities.
8. Initiates, designs, and implements programs to meet specific needs of the school.
9. Establishes and maintains favorable relationships with local community groups and individuals to foster understanding and solicit support for overall school objectives and programs; to interpret Board policies and administrative directives; and to discuss and resolve individual student problems.
10. Orients newly assigned staff members and assists in their development.
11. Coordinates and supervises support services such as: maintenance, security, food services, recreational programs, financial and accounting functions, and all other support services.
12. Implements and supervises the school’s special educational programs.
13. Assumes leadership in the direction of the school’s extra-curricular activities.
14. Evaluates and counsels all staff members regarding their individual and group performance.
15. Prepares or supervises the preparation and completion of state reports, records, lists, and all other paperwork required or appropriate to the school’s administration.
16. Participates in Administrative team meetings, board meetings, negotiations meetings, and such other meetings as are required or appropriate.
17. Reviews and approves all of the school’s purchase requests.
18. Attends special events held to recognize student achievement, and attends school sponsored activities, functions, and athletic events.
19. Maintains and controls the various local funds generated by student activities.
20. Cooperates with college and university officials regarding teacher training and preparation.
21. Works with various members of the central administrative staff on school problems that involve student transportation, and special services for students.
22. Conducts staff meetings to keep members informed of policy changes, new programs, and other pertinent information.
23. Communicates with the Superintendent on building issues and student/staff activities.
24. Keeps abreast of changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings, reading professional journals and other publications, and discussing problems of mutual interest with others in the field.
25. The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the Corporation.
